O'Neill breaks Clare hearts in Munster U-20 Hurling Championship

Limerick pulled off a dramatic smash and grab victory over Clare in Wednesday evening’s oneills.com Munster U20 Hurling Championship at the TUS Gaelic Grounds.

The Shannonsiders looked set for defeat when they trailed by three points at the end of normal time, but then up stepped Cathal O’Neill to pull the game out of the fire.

He slammed home a goal from a free to level the game and then fired over the winning point to break Clare hearts.

It was a memorable evening for the talented O’Neill who finished the game with a personal tally of 2-3 and scored his first goal after 72 seconds.

That major gave Limerick a very fast start, but as the game progressed it was Clare who took control with the aid of a stiff breeze.

With players like Shane Punch, Colm O’Meara, Patrick Crotty, and Diarmuid Cahill all impressing, they had moved into a seven-point lead by half-time.

Limerick came back into the game in the second-half when Patrick Kirby scored their second goal, but Clare still looked like they’d hold on for victory until O’Neill produced those late heroics.
