Limerick 1-19 Clare 1-19

A strong second-half from Cork saw them run out four-point winners over Waterford in the oneills.com Munster U-20 Hurling Championship this evening.

Waterford started the game strongly, moving six points ahead after 22 minutes thanks partly to a fine Josh Fitzgerald goal.

But the Rebels rallied before half-time and were really back in the game when Colin Walsh hit a stunning goal after jet-heeled solo-run.

Trailing by 1-10 to 1-9 at the break, Cork outscored Waterford by 0-6 to 0-2 in the first 25 minutes of the second-half to put some daylight between the teams.

Waterford weren’t helped by some poor shooting. They hit eight second-half wides and failed to capitalise on two late goal chances as Cork held on for victory.

In tonight’s other match, Clare hit three injury-time points including two from midfielder Sean Rynne to claim a draw with defending Munster champions Limerick.

It was no less than the Banner County deserved after a cracking game of hurling between two well-matched teams.

Clare started the stronger moving 0-7 to 0-4 ahead, but Limerick were boosted by an Adam English goal that helped them into a 1-9 to 0-9 half-time lead.

Clare then drew level when Patrick Crotty hit the game’s second goal, but it looked like Limerick were pulling clear when Patrick O’Donovan landed three frees and a ’65 to push them three points ahead.

Clare refused to wave the white flag though, and came with that late charge to claim a share of the spoils.
