Defensive resilience pleases Cadogan

Cork brought a steely determination to the Gaelic Grounds with Eoin Cadogan stressing how important it was to be resilient.

Seven days previously Tipperary struck 2-24 from play when defeating Cork at Pairc Ui Chaoimh, but the statistics were much more favourable following the collision with Limerick.

A sterling Cork defensive effort restricted the All Ireland champions to 1-7 from play with only two points arriving in the second period.

"What happened last week wasn’t good enough from a defender’s point of view," Cadogan remarked.

"We spoke at large about that. Based on the attack Limerick had, we had to shut them down. We owed it to our forwards as well to shut them down.

"Last week’s performance wasn’t good enough. Everyone highlighted that; we highlighted it ourselves as players. We went out and performed. It’s done now. We need to reset and get ready for Waterford.

"The Munster Championship is a minefield. Any team can beat any other on a given day. We brought a workrate and hunger, matched Limerick, and came out the right side."

Cadogan acknowledged it was a severe examination of Cork's character to thunder back into the Munster reckoning following the Tipperary reversal.

"Absolutely," Cadogan replied. "Last week wasn’t good enough. People outside of the camp spoke about it; we spoke about it inside the camp.

"What we conceded wasn’t good enough. We felt that as a whole, as a team, we’d perform for each other and for the people who travelled here."
