With the 2020 GAA Football All-Ireland Senior Championship games being played behind closed doors, SuperValu is calling on GAA fans across the country to ‘Support Where You’re From’ by showing their incredible county passion and pride from the safety of their homes and communities.

Joined by their GAA ambassadors – Kerry’s David Clifford and manager Peter Keane, Dublin’s Cian O’Sullivan, Galway’s Damien Comer, Donegal’s Ryan McHugh and long-standing SuperValu ambassador, Bernard Brogan – SuperValu announced that they are on the hunt to find Ireland’s most devoted and vocal superfans this Championship season, to give them an opportunity to show the country what their county team means to them.

As part of their sponsorship activity, SuperValu will champion real fans throughout the 2020 season – which will include a fly-on-the-wall peek inside the homes of county superfans, during the All-Ireland Semi-Finals and the All-Ireland Final, in a new online series called ‘SuperValu’s Superfans’. As supporters experience the nail-biting pre-match nerves, the first touch of the ball, and every crunching tackle from their couches, SuperValu will be capturing their live reactions which will broadcast across SuperValu’s social media channels.

Speaking about the launch, Ray Kelly, SuperValu Managing Director, said; “This year has been like no other in the history of the GAA and we know fans all around the country have desperately missed the weekly inter-county action over the summer. We know there are many fans who have never even missed an inter-county match, but we also know that they are still as passionate as ever and will be showing their support for their team from their homes and communities. This year we enter our 11th year as sponsor of the GAA Football All-Ireland Senior Championship and we want to help fans to Support Where You’re From.”

Uachtarán CLG John Horan added: “We have worked closely with SuperValu since the start of the pandemic and we fully endorse this latest initiative to acknowledge passionate support of our teams from the safety of our homes in the weeks and months ahead. Of course, our 2020 championships are going to be different but they will still engage us and provide us with a welcome distraction at a time of the year when it will be most welcome. Good luck to SuperValu with ‘Support Where You’re From’ and thanks to them for their ongoing support of Gaelic games.”

As well as the Superfans activity this Championship season, SuperValu will also work with its ambassadors and the GAA community to explore what it means to ‘Support Where You’re From’. We’ll hear from players on the difficulties they faced due to COVID-19 and their thoughts on returning to the pitch in front of empty stands.
