CLARE 3-15 TIPPERARY 2-5

LIMERICK 2-9 WATERFORD 1-6

Clare’s first win over Tipperary in the Munster U-20 Footabll Championship for 26 years came in some style on Monday evening in Hennessy Memorial Park in Miltown Malbay.

Tipperary started strongly with a superb Jamie Holloway goal after 10 minutes, but thereafter it was all Clare.

They scored 3-6 without reply to move 3-8 to 1-0 ahead early in the second half and effectively kill the game off early.

The Clare goals came from Brian McNamara and Sean McNamara in the first half and then Shane Griffin a minute into the second-half.

Tipperary did battle to the finish, scoring 1-1 in injury-time, but by then the Banner County had taken their foot off the pedal and were already looking forward to a home semi-final against Kerry next Monday.

In the night’s other quarter-final, Limerick proved too strong for Waterford, running out six point winners in the end.

Goals in either half from David O’Shaughnessy and Darragh Murray proved decisive, with those two players particularly impressive throughout the game.

Waterford just didn’t possess anything like the same cutting edge, and their late injury-time goal from Eoin O’Callaghan was little more than a consolation at that stage.
