Griffin leads search for new Wexford manager

Liam Griffin has been named as the chairman of the committee charged with finding the new Wexford Senior hurling manager.

Griffin, who led Wexford to an All-Ireland title in 1996, was nominated to take up the role by the county's Clubs and was appointed at a meeting of the Management Committee of Wexford GAA at the Ferrycarrig Hotel on Wednesday night.

Griffin is joined on the committee by County Board Chairman Ger Doyle, Brendan Maher (Rathnure), Billy Byrne (Naomh Éanna) and Darragh Ryan (St. Anne's), while County Board Secretary Margaret Doyle will act as secretary.

The committee will commence work immediately on finding a replacement for former manager Colm Bonnar, who completed his term at the end of the 2011 season.

Meanwhile, Galway manager John McIntyre has delivered his end of year report to officers and delegates of the Galway Hurling Board.

Delegates have been asked to return to their Clubs to discuss the issue of McIntyre's future as manager, with his ratification for the 2012 season due to be discussed at the next meeting.

Delegates were assured that the Hurling Board had not made any approach to other potential candidates for the job from outside the county.
