Saturday, October 6.

Leinster Council officials have revealed that Offaly and Dublin are happy with the changes made to the format of the 2008 Leinster hurling championship, which will see Wexford and Kilkenny granted an automatic passage to the semi-finals.

At a meeting of the Council on Wednesday, the idea of an open draw was rubber-stamped after a vote of provincial delegates.

Westmeath, Dublin, Offaly and Laois will now vie for a place in the semi-finals against the two traditional powerhouses.

"The chairman put the proposal forward and everybody was in agreement with it," Leinster Council secretary Michael Delaney said.
