Bord Gais Energy Munster Under 21 Final

Limerick v Cork, Gaelic Grounds, 7.30pm

An intriguing contest is expected between two teams sprinkled with players, who are establishing themselves in the senior inter-county arena.

Significant hope is attached to an exciting crop of Limerick hurlers, but Cork also feature some extremely talented performers with Mark Coleman and Shane Kingston flaring to prominence at the highest level.

Darragh Fitzgibbon, though, is suspended which is a serious blow for Cork, who finished strongly to defeat holders Waterford at the penultimate stage in Munster.

Declan Dalton’s last gasp goal sealed victory for John Meyler’s promising outfit, but another demanding away encounter awaits at the Gaelic Grounds.

Limerick were effective when defeating Clare with Sean Finn, Ronan Lynch, Kyle Hayes, Aaron Gillane, Cian Lynch, Peter Casey, Tom Morrissey, and Barry Nash accomplished performers.

Two years ago Limerick claimed provincial and All Ireland glory at this level so important and impressive work has been carried out in the county during the past couple of decades.

This is reflected at Post Primary level in the Harty Cup and also in the Independent.ie Fitzgibbon Cup arena where so many young Limerick hurlers are flourishing.

Earning silverware in the green and white is what most of this group have become accustomed to with Munster minor titles collected in 2013 and 2014.

Those victories offered a boost and now Limerick are gunning for a second southern crown in three years in the Under 21 grade.

Cork, though, have been toiling too and their triumph over Waterford was loaded with character, and this decider could go the distance.
