GAA.ie Hurler of the Week Darragh O Connell.

Cuala's Darragh O'Connell has been voted GAA.ie Hurler of the Week.

The Dublin outfit delivered a brilliant display against Ballyea to secure AIB All Ireland Club Senior Hurling Championship glory at Croke Park on St Patrick's Day.

O'Connell earned 1,486 votes on the GAA's Official Twitter (@officialgaa), Facebook, and Instagram pages with colleagues David Treacy second and John Sheanon third.

GAA.ie Hurler of the Week

1: Darragh O'Connell (Cuala) - 1486 (46%)

2: David Treacy (Cuala) - 927 (28%)

3: John Sheanon (Cuala) - 852 (26%)

Kerry native Darragh O'Connell was the dyanmo at the heart of Cuala's energetic All-Ireland winning performance.

He ran the show in midfield, hoovering up a huge amount of ball, and always using it wisely.

A seriously pacy player, Ballyea couldn't cope with O'Connell's scorching runs which yielded him three classy points from play.

You need your leaders to really step forward on the big days and David Treacy was a constant, reassuring presence for Cuala throughout the All-Ireland Final.

He always made himself available, won a huge amount of ball, and then used it very wisely.

His free-taking was immaculate - he scored eight of them - and he chipped in with a wonderful point from play too.

Man-marking Tony Kelly is arguably the most arduous task there is in hurling, but John Sheanon did it brilliantly in Friday's All-Ireland Final.

He's a serious athlete with an appetite for work and he didn't give Kelly a moment's grace throughout the match.

Not only did he hold Ballyea's chief danger-man scoreless, he chipped in with a point himself in what was a hugely influential performance.
