Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas Gael Aogán Ó Fearghail has expressed his sympathies and those of the GAA to the family of Tony Keady who passed away last night.

The GAA President said: “Tony was an inspirational figure on one of the greatest Galway teams of all time. He was a superb hurler, who relished the challenge of performing on the big day and he was a leader to those around him.

“A back to back All-Ireland winner, a two-time All-Star and Hurler of the Year in 1988, he achieved everything there was to achieve in the game and still retained an incredible passion for hurling that saw him attend so many Galway matches, up to and including last Sunday’s clash with Tipperary.

“I offer my condolences and those of the wider GAA family to his wife Margaret and their four children Shannon, Anthony, Harry and Jake, their wider family and circle of friends, his club Killimordaly and Galway GAA.”
