AIB GAA Football All-Ireland Junior Club Championship Final
Derrytresk (Tyrone) v Naomh Pádraig, Clonbur (Galway), Croke Park, 2.00pm

Derrytresk are aiming to become the second Tyrone club to win a junior All-Ireland title, while Galway have yet to produce a winner of the competition.

The Galway champions are managed by former Galway footballer Stephen Joyce and have a superb defensive record. In their three games en route to the final, they have conceded just one goal – against Creggs in the Connacht semi-final – and have themselves hit the back of the net on five occasions, including three in the All-Ireland semi-final win over Ballivor of Meath.

Their closest call came in the Connacht final, when they were level with Islandeady of Mayo in the closing stages, but points from Eoin Joyce, the son of the manager, and Pat Lambe steered the north-west Galway outfit to provincial success.

Derrytresk haven’t allowed a tiny playing base – the townland has fewer than 60 houses – inhibit their ambitions, as they aim to crown the most successful season in their 109-year history with an All-Ireland title.

They landed the Ulster title without conceding a single goal, beating Doire Trasna (Derry), Éire Óg (Armagh) and Cremartin (Monaghan) on the way to a maiden provincial title.

The win over Cremartin was by far their toughest assignment. It was all square at half-time before Cremartin led by two points after 50 minutes but a crucial goal from veteran Michael Rea (Caolan Corr had scored their first in the opening half) helped Derrytresk to the narrowest of victories.

Their All-Ireland semi-final win over Dromid Pearses of Kerry garnered plenty of headlines and leaves them seven players short for Sunday’s game through suspension. With such a small pick, it will be a massive hurdle for Derrytresk to overcome, but they will no doubt use it as motivation going into the game.

Paths to the final:

Clonbur 2-11 Creggs (Roscommon) 1-4 (Connacht semi-final)
Clonbur 0-11 Islandeady (Mayo) 0-9 (Connacht final)
Clonbur 3-4 Ballivor (Meath) 0-3 (All-Ireland semi-final)

Derrytresk (Tyrone) 2-11 Doire Trasna (Derry) 0-6 (Ulster quarter-final)
Derrytresk 2-12 Eire Og (Armagh) 0-3 (Ulster semi-final)
Derrytresk 2-5 Cremartin (Monaghan) 0-10 (Ulster final)
Derrytresk 1-10 Dromid Pearses (Kerry) 0-7 (All-Ireland semi-final)
