Ten Christmas Questions with Seamus Callanan

Tuesday, December 18, 2012

GAA.ie puts ten Christmas-themed questions to Tipperary forward and 2010 All-Ireland winner Séamus Callanan, who is already looking forward to the 2013 season under new manager Eamon O’Shea.

Q: What’s your favourite Christmas song?
A: I would probably say it’s Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree

Q: If you could have one person over for Christmas dinner?
A: Georgia Salpa will always be welcome in my house!

Q: The best Christmas present you ever received?
A: I remember getting a BMX with pegs on it one year and I just thought I was the coolest young lad around. I’d say I was only seven or eight at the time!

Q: The worst Christmas present?
A: Mam always gives you those Lynx box-sets and socks as well. You end up with loads of them.

Championship Debut: 2008 v Cork
Championship Appearances: 21

Q: How many of Santa’s reindeer can you name?
A: That’s tougher than you think! Rudolph is one anyway. And then there is Comet and Blitzen. Vixen is one too? That’s all I am getting!

Q: You have to buy your county manager a present for a Secret Santa. What do you get him?
A: I’d get him a whistle, he will need it for all the pre-season running we will be doing!

Q: Who on the Tipperary team will eat the biggest Christmas dinner?
A: Eoin Kelly

Q: What player would be top of your Christmas wish-list?
A: It would have to be Henry Shefflin. I grew up watching him play Hurling and I am still watching him and trying to learn from him. He is incredible really.

Q: If it snows on Christmas day are you one to go outside and make a snowman or stay by the fire?
A: Ah I would definitely be one to go out and mess around in it.

Q: What is your favourite thing about Christmas?
A: My favourite part of Christmas would be getting all your friends and family together. Some of my friends have had to emigrate recently so I am looking forward to getting them all home for a while.

Séamus Callanan was speaking to us the launch of the Higher Education Championship draws in Croke Park. For further information on those draws see www.he.gaa.ie.
