Dolan returns to Westmeath fold

Friday, January 04, 2013

Dessie Dolan has returned to the Westmeath team for their Bord Na Móna O’Byrne Cup game against Athlone IT on Sunday.

Dolan, a GAA All Star in 2004, decided to take a break from inter-county duty last season following a gruelling club campaign with Garrycastle.

He has been named at corner forward in the team for Sunday’s game in Moate, which will be his first appearance in a Westmeath jersey since he came on as a substitute in the All-Ireland Qualifier defeat to Antrim in June 2011.

Goalkeeper Gary Connaughton, meanwhile, has also been included in the side.

Connaughton moved to the US before the start of the championship last summer but broke his ankle in a club game in Boston and returned to Ireland soon after.

Westmeath (SF v Athlone IT): G Connaughton; M McCallon, K Gavin, A Purcell; M Curley, P Sharry, D Harte; D Duffy, P Bannon; R Foley, D Glennon, D Mullen; C Curley, C McCormack, D Dolan.
