Team News: Brian McGuigan starts for Tyrone

Thursday, July 29, 2010

Tyrone boss Mickey Harte has made one change from the team that started the Ulster GAA Football Senior Championship final against Monaghan for Saturday’s All-Ireland quarter-final clash with Dublin at Croke Park.

Brian McGuigan replaces brother Tommy, who is ruled out with a knee injury, starting for the Red Hands for the first time since the 2008 All-Ireland quarter-final victory over Dublin. He has already appeared three times this year as a substitute.

Tyrone’s top scorer in this year’s Championship Seán Cavanagh (0-9) is named at full-forward.

The 2005 Player of the Year Stephen O’Neill is named among the substitutes.

Dublin boss Pat Gilroy is expected to name an unchanged starting XV when he announces his team on Friday morning.

Tyrone (SF v Dublin): P McConnell; C McCarron, Justin McMahon, R McMenamin; D Harte, C Gormley, P Jordan; C Cavanagh, K Hughes; B Dooher, B McGuigan, Joe McMahon; M Penrose, S Cavanagh, O Mulligan.

Earley starts for Kildare

Dermot Earley has overcome a hamstring injury to take his place at midfield in the Kildare team to face Meath in Sunday’s GAA Football All-Ireland quarter-final at GAA Headquarters.

Earley damaged the muscle in last week’s Round 4 Qualifier win over Monaghan but is deemed fit enough to start against the Royals.

Ken Donnelly is named on the bench despite suffering a cruciate knee injury at the start of the year and could see some game time.

Kildare (SF v Meath): S McCormack; P Kelly, H McGrillen, A MacLochlainn; M O'Flaherty, E Bolton, B Flanagan, D Flynn; D Earley, J Kavanagh, P O'Neill, E O'Flaherty; J Doyle (captain), A Smith, E Callaghan

Rebels unchanged

Cork boss Conor Counihan has named an unchanged team for Sunday’s GAA Football All-Ireland quarter-final clash with Roscommon.

Nemo Rangers' Derek Kavanagh retains his place alongside Aidan Walsh in midfield having impressed after coming in as a late replacement for Alan O’Connor in the Rebels’ last outing, the Round 4 Qualifier win over Limerick.

O’Connor came on as a sub in the extra-time win having struggled with a bug in the build up to the game and is named on the bench for Sunday’s encounter with the Connacht champions, as is Carrigaline’s Nicholas Murphy.

Paul Kerrigan is also included in the half-forward line, with Donncha O’Connor again missing out.

In defence, Noel O’Leary, another late inclusion in the Cork team last time out, gets the nod ahead of John Miskella.

Cork (SF v Roscommon): A Quirke; R Carey, M Shields, J O’Sullivan; N O’Leary, G Canty (capt), P Kissane; D Kavanagh, A Walsh; P Kerrigan, P O’Neill, P Kelly; D Goulding, C Sheehan, C O’Neill.
