Kelly expected back for Rebels clash

Monday, April 19, 2010

Tipperary fans can breathe easy with the news that Eoin Kelly is expected to be back in action in a matter of weeks after suffering a hamstring strain over the weekend.

Fears that the Tipperary captain would miss the Munster Championship opener in six weeks’ time have eased after it was confirmed that the injury he sustained in the narrow win over Offaly is not as bad as initially feared.

The injury has been diagnosed as a grade one hamstring strain and is unrelated to the lower back problems that have dogged the Mullinahone star in recent years.

Kelly left the pitch clutching his hamstring 42 minutes into the Allianz GAA Hurling National League Division One clash at Tullamore, sparking immediate concern over his availability for the much-anticipated clash with the Rebels on Sunday, May 30.

“There is of no concern at all right now about six weeks’ time,” Tipperary spokesman Ger Ryan confirmed to GAA.ie.

“This is a grade one strain, so it’s very low on our worry list.

“Right now, I’m not sure of the prognosis, but I would have thought that he will be back in action in a couple of weeks.”

Meanwhile, Darragh Egan and David Young are both expected to be back in training within a number of days after picking up minor injuries on Sunday.
