Séamus Plunkett has been named as the new Laois senior hurling manager.
His appointment was ratified at a meeting of the county board on Monday night.
Plunkett takes over from Cork native Teddy McCarthy, who stepped down during the summer after just one disappointing season in charge.
Portlaoise clubman Plunkett, along with former inter-county player Paul Cuddy, was initially asked by the county board to find McCarthy’s replacement, but agreed to take up the position when finding a new man to take over proved more difficult than anticipated.
Plunkett managed the county’s minor team for the last two years, leading them to an appearance in the Leinster semi-final in 2012.
Cuddy, who was also part of the sub-committee charged with finding the new manager, will be one of Plunkett’s selectors.
Meanwhile, Pat Critchley has stepped into Plunkett’s shoes as the county’s new minor manager.
