Allianz Football League Division Three and Four Round-Up
Cavan 0-7
Longford 0-10
A strong second-half performance from Longford was enough to ensure their second Allianz Football League Division III win on the bounce as they accounted for Cavan in Kingspan Breffni Park with three points to spare.
Cavan had the advantage at the interval, 0-4 to 0-3, but they failed to kick on and were made to pay by a hard-working Longford team. The visitors notched the first two scores of the match but Cavan hit back through Raymond Galligan and Niall McDermott to draw level. Surprisingly Longford, failed to score again for close to 30 minutes but only the same two Cavan players managed to get on the scoresheet with another point apiece. Robbie Smyth got Longford’s third and last score of the half to leave just one in it at the break.
Cavan’s Eugene Keating opened the scoring after the restart but Longford then seized the momentum and registered six unanswered points through the likes of Michael Quinn, Paul Barden and Sean McCormack, while the introduction of substitute James McGivney proved an inspired decision by manager Glenn Ryan.
Cavan captain Padraic O’Reilly stemmed the onslaught with a point but the damage was done as Longford ran out comfortable victors and condemned Cavan two their second loss in a row.
Elsewhere in Division Four it was all too easy for Waterford as they strolled past Kilkenny on a scoreline of 0-21 to 0-2.
It looked bad for the Cats in the early stages of the game as Waterford upped the pace and lead by three points after 10 minutes. The margin was then further extended for the Deisé by Gary Hurney and they were 0-16 to 0-1 clear at the break.
John Owens men took their foot off the pedal in the second half but Kilkenny only managed to score once more in what was an utterly forgettable night for them.
