Gottsche and Healy win GAA/GPA Player of the Month Awards

Monday, June 10, 2013

The GAA/GPA All-Stars sponsored by Opel are delighted to announce Mark Gottsche (London) and Cahir Healy (Laois) as the Players of the Month for May in football and hurling respectively, in recognition of their outstanding contributions in recent weeks. Both selections, chosen by the inter-county playing body, reflect the excellent performances by both players during their championship outings last month.

Mark Gottsche led London to a historic victory over Sligo last month as London achieved their first Connacht Championship win in 36 years. The 25-year-old Galway native, based in London, gave a dazzling performance stunning Sligo in the process. London will take heart from this historic victory and will relish their semi-final date with Leitrim on June 23rd.

Having pledged his allegiance to Seamus Plunkett's squad earlier this year, Laois star Cahir Healy was instrumental in his county's brilliant victory over Antrim and their quarter-final destruction of Carlow in Portlaoise. They now face reigning Leinster champions Galway next Sunday.

GAA Commenting on the announcement, Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas Gael, Liam Ó Néill said, “I wholeheartedly congratulate both Mark and Cahir on their awards – recognition from their peers of the outstanding performances both put in during their counties’ respective championship successes last month. “Our games are littered with special talents, some of whom do not always receive the acknowledgement their skills deserve, and Mark’s contribution to London’s famous success over Sligo and Cahir’s central role in his county’s win over Antrim have helped both teams progress. I wish both every success in the weeks ahead.”

Dessie Farrell, CEO of the Gaelic Players Association added: “It is wonderful that the contributions of Mark Gottsche of London and Cahir Healy are being recognised – both performances were part of very significant victories for both counties and I congratulate the players. I wish both of them the very best of luck in the games ahead and I would like to thank the players who acknowledged the performances by voting for the May winners. Thanks to Opel for their on-going support for this scheme and our players.”

Commenting on the announcement, Dave Sheeran, Managing Director, Opel Ireland, said, “We are delighted to present Mark Gottsche and Cahir Healy with the Opel sponsored GAA/GPA All Stars Player of the Month Award for May, in recognition of their outstanding performances in recent weeks. With the successful launch of this years Opel GAA Ambassador programme as well as the Opel Kit for Clubs initiative we continue our commitment to the sport and our sponsorship of the GAA/GPA All Star Awards. I’d like to take this opportunity to wish Mark and Cahir the very best of luck for the rest of the Championship season.”
