Allianz Football League Launch 2012

It’s that time of year again: the pre-season competitions are out of the way and the big counties are starting to awake from their winter slumber and casting half an eye on this summer’s championship.

For any county intent on a run in the championship most of their preparations will be done in the Allianz Football League which kicks off this weekend with the highly-anticipated re-run of year’s All-Ireland final between Dublin and Kerry and Kildare's meeting with Tyrone in Division II.

Ahead of the start of the competition, www.gaa.ie assesses the lay of the land in Allianz League Division I and runs the rule over all the runners and riders.

Cork have won the competition for the last two years running and are favourites to make it a treble despite last year’s Championship showing.

All-Ireland champions Dublin and perennial contenders Kerry are also in the running, while it’ll be a dogfight at the bottom to avoid relegation to Division II.
