Preview: All-Ireland SFC Qualifier - Mayo v Cork

Mayo certainly look like the team with more momentum coming into this match.

Having lost to Galway in Connacht they’ve resurrected their season with two hard-fought Qualifier victories over Derry and Clare.

They were asked hard questions in both games but found the answers, and look like a team that’s steadily building for yet another serious assault on the Sam Maguire Cup.

A fit again Aidan O’Shea was superb in both of those matches and his form must be a major source of optimism for Mayo supporters going into this match.

Kevin McLoughlin was outstanding against Clare too and with Andy Moran and the O’Connor brothers, Cillian and Diarmuid, also showing solid form, it looks like Mayo attack is starting to click into gear.

Optimism is harder to source as far as Cork are concerned after they were hammered by Kerry in the Munster SFC Final on a score-line of 1-23 to 0-15.

They were criticised so severely after that match and have been pegged as such underdogs coming into this game that you’d have to say if there is a performance in this team they’ll surely be fired up to produce it now.

There’s no shortage of good footballers in this Cork team so there’s always the chance they could do something like that, but going on form alone it’s hard to make a case for them producing it.
