Lee Keegan fit for Kerry clash
By Cian O’Connell
Mayo manager Stephen Rochford has confirmed that Lee Keegan will be available for the August 20 All Ireland SFC Semi-Final against Kerry at Croke Park.
Westport clubman Keegan missed the emphatic Quarter-Final replay triumph over Roscommon, but is set to return to full training tomorrow (Sunday).
"Nothing fresh,” Rochford replied when asked about Mayo’s injury news. “Lee trained, modified, but will train fully this week.
“Chris Barrett had a bit of a foot injury coming into the game last Monday, so he didn't train (on Thursday), but is of no concern really going into the weekend. So there's nothing new, and we would expect to pick from a full squad."
Keegan’s availability does mean Rochford will have some difficult selection decisions to make ahead of the Kerry encounter.
"Look, there's always a challenge thankfully in selecting what people might reference as being the right team,” Rochford says.
“But, look, Lee gives us more options and when we looked at the team prior to the game the last day, we had that conundrum as well.
"But we got a really solid performance from the 14 outfield players the last day – and of course David (Clarke) as well. But as regards the places that Lee will be in competition for. So it's a good headache."
