Mayo put their supporters through the emotional wringer yet again on Saturday as they required extra-time to beat a spirited Cork and advance to the All-Ireland SFC Quarter-Finals.

It was a lot more straightforward for Galway who crushed a disappointing Donegal with a high-octane display of attacking football.

The GAA.ie Footballer of the Week nominees are Johnny Heaney (Galway), Cillian O’Connor (Mayo), and Sean Powter (Cork).

The voting process is simple: retweet the image of your chosen player on the GAA's official Twitter account (@officialgaa) or like their image on the GAA's official Facebook and Instagram pages.

Voting will close at 10am on Tuesday, July 25 and the winner will be announced on GAA.ie.

Johnny Heaney (Galway)

Johnny Heaney was subbed off at half-time in Galway’s Connacht SFC Final against Roscommon two weeks ago but he proved class is permanent with a game-breaking performance in Saturday’s round 4A Qualifier victory over Donegal.

He scored 2-2 from play and his two first-half goals effectively settled the contest in Galway’s favour.

Being in the right place at the right time is an underappreciated skill every forward must possess, and Heaney showed great predatory instincts to palm the ball to the back of the net twice from close range.

Cillian O'Connor (Mayo)

Cillian O’Connor is putting together a very impressive body of work this Championship summer and he produced another top-class performance for Mayo against Cork on Sunday.

On a day when the Connacht side badly needed cool heads, O’Connor’s unflappable demeanour and metronomic accuracy in front of the posts was vital.

He scored 11 of his team’s 27 points, an impressive six of them from play, and there’s no way Mayo would have survived a big scare without him.

Sean Powter (Cork)

There won’t be many goals scored this summer as spectacular as the one Sean Powter drove to the back of the Mayo net on Saturday.

He started the move with a delightful one-two then raced past three would-be tacklers before firing the ball low and hard past David Clarke for a brilliant finish.

The flying wing-forward looks like a real talent and troubled the Mayo defence all day with his willingness to run at them.
