GAA.ie Footballer of the Week nominations.

On a busy football championship weekend Down produced one of the shocks of the summer so far by beating Monaghan to advance to an Ulster Final.

In Leinster, Dublin recorded their biggest ever winning margin under Jim Gavin as they continued their bid to win a seventh successive provincial title by steamrolling Westmeath.

There were four Qualifier matches too as Cavan, Carlow, Wexford, and Armagh progressed to the next round at the expense of Offaly, London, Limerick, and Fermanagh.

The GAA.ie Footballer of the Week nominees for this week are Paul Mannion (Dublin), Connaire Harrison (Down) and Gearoid McKernan (Cavan).

The voting process is simple: retweet the image of your chosen player on the GAA's official Twitter account (@officialgaa) or like their image on the GAA's official Facebook and Instagram pages.

Voting will close at 10am on Tuesday, June 27 and the winner will be announced on GAA.ie.

Paul Mannion (Dublin)

Paul Mannion has been around the Dublin set-up over the last five years and has always been capable of moments of brilliance, but on Sunday he registered a complete performance - scoring a remarkable eight points from play.

With Diarmuid Connolly suspended, Mannion looks to be cementing his place in the half-forward line and the UCD student showed a ruthlessness in front of goal as the Dubs ran out 31-point winners.

With the likes of Bernard Brogan and Kevin McManamon on the bench, the Dublin forwards will have to be sharp if they want to remain their place on the starting 15, and Mannion made sure that his name will be the first on the team sheet when they face Kildare in the Leinster Final.

Gearoid McKiernan (Cavan)

Cavan were under pressure against Offaly in their Round 1B Qualifier, but it was Gearoid McKiernan’s contribution that proved crucial at Bord na Móna O’Connor Park.

In the first-half, McKiernan top-scored from play with four points, keeping their Midlands opponents at bay.

With the game in the balance on 42 minutes, McKiernan popped up with the game’s defining moment to slot a goal past Offaly 'keeper Alan Mulhall as Cavan pushed on.

Connaire Harrison (Down)

Connaire Harrison played superbly in the full-forward line as Down shocked Monaghan to progress to an Ulster Final showdown against Mickey Harte's Tyrone.

Harrison was the sharpest point of the Down attack throughout his time on the field, winning hard-ball and taking his scoring opportunities clinically.

He finished with three points from play which helped Down get over the line, and his beautiful point from from the left-hand side in the first-half was one of the highlights of the game.
