GAA.ie Footballer of the Week

1: Drew Wylie (Monaghan) 2524 votes (39.9%)

2: Brendan Murphy (Carlow) 2509 votes (39.6%)

3: Paul Kingston (Laois) 1287 votes (20.4%)

Tasked with looking after arguably Fermanagh’s most valuable asset, Seán Quigley, was a challenge that Drew Wylie clearly relished.

From the first ball Wylie outmuscled his opponent who was forced out the field throughout the game where he scored his only point from play as Monaghan ran out 1-20 to 1-11 winners on Sunday.

Wylie was outstanding during the League for Monaghan and has carried that form through to the Championship. When he plays like he did on Saturday, he's arguably the best full-back in the game.

Whenever Carlow put in a good performance you can almost guarantee so did their midfield maestro Brendan Murphy, and Saturday’s win over Wexford was no different.

Murphy scored 1-2 from play as Carlow registered their first win the in the Leinster championship in six years.

Carlow lead by the narrowest of margins as the two sides entered the final minutes and it was Murphy’s crucial late goal that ensured Wexford’s exit from this year’s Leinster championship.

Scoring a collective 3-5, brothers Donie and Paul Kingston were in splendid form as Laois put their league woes behind them to beat Longford 4-15 to 0-16.

In a vital stage during the game, when Longford were gathering some momentum as they bridged the deficit, Paul Kingston raised the green flag as Peter Creedon’s men began to pull away.

Donie’s goal soon followed as the lead became unassailable and in the second-half Paul scored his second goal and finished with 2-1 to cap a fine display in the full-forward line.
