Colin Kelly has opted not to seek an extension to his term as Louth manager.

In a statement released on Sunday afternoon Kelly, who guided Louth to two successive Allianz Football League promotions, indictated that he will step down from the role.

Meath beat Louth in the 2017 Leinster SFC and Kelly's charges were then defeated in a Round 1A Qualifier by Longford. Last year Louth claimed the Allianz Football League Division Four title at Croke Park and lost the Division Three decider against Tipperay in April.

"After three years as manager of the Louth senior football team I have decided not to seek an extension to my time in charge," Kelly said.

"I believe the time is right for someone else to take a fresh approach with a talented and committed group of players.

"Our Championship ended on a disappointing note, but the players achieved progress with back to back promotions taking the county to Division Two."
